Job Summary
The Hardware Engineer will report to the Hardware Team Leader and will be responsible for developing comprehensive applications-engineered solutions for specific projects, as well as providing technical/sales support to the field organization. This position will act as the primary liaison between the sales and operations team. Candidates with a strong background in HVAC Controls/Building Automation, Applications Engineering and DDC Programming will be considered.
Responsibilities
- Reviews bid specifications and develops exception documentation.
- Chooses the appropriate mix of products and installation methods to provide the most cost-effective solution. Prepares all required installation submittals and schedules subsequent hand-off to operations. Handles the ordering of all required products and equipment. Acts as a technical resource to the team and customer as needed. Participates in sales-to-operations turnover meetings to evaluate the accuracy of the sales estimate and job layout.
- This includes, but is not limited to, developing the scope of work, producing control schematics, wiring diagrams, sequences of operations (SOPs), methods of procedures (MOPS), schedules, and engineering documents/checklists.
- Use company or customer design standards to create project shop drawings per project documentation.
- Read and understand project specifications and MEP drawing sets.
- Select materials, including DDC modules, field sensing and control devices, dampers, and valves, to meet the project requirements, specifications, codes, and customer standards.
- Submit material order forms for all project-required materials to the purchasing group, if required.
- Complete each assigned project focusing on customer satisfaction and specification compliance while trying to maintain budgetary guidelines.
- Designs building automation systems for large and/or complex buildings consisting of mechanical system layouts, electrical drawings, bill of materials, sequence of operations, valve, damper & AFMS schedules, and DDC panel layouts to meet the intent of the project plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Designs BAS network architecture to support operator workstations, DDC field panels, field controllers & third-party integration devices. Analyzes plans, construction contract specifications and codes to determine project requirements.
Requirments
- Associates or technical degree required, Bachelor’s in Engineering preferred.
- Industry experience desired is 3-5 years in HVAC controls.
- Technical experience with BACnet LonWorks and Tridium integrations.
- Direct knowledge or experience with Distech is desired but not required.
- Prefer technical experience with PLC devices, programming, and integration.
- Basic computer networking proficiency is required, especially with LANs, Hubs, Routers, etc.
- Strong communication, presentation, training, and technical writing skills
